Why Do Shadows Have to Be So Shadowy?

Everyone thinks they already know all their shadows. We know ourselves so well, I mean, we were there during every trauma, weren’t we? We know our wounds, our tendencies, and our triggers because we’ve been living with them our whole lives.
So wrong.
The reality is that most of us have no conception of our deepest shadows. That’s why they’re called shadows, they’re hidden from our view.
Our egos want us to think that we know all of our problems. It makes us feel better about ourselves. If we tell ourselves a story about a finite set of traumas that can be worked through eventually, then there’s light at the end of the tunnel. But if we were to have the notion that our traumas are endless, extending through multiple lifetimes, then the ego ain’t so happy about it. We might think less of ourselves, get discouraged at how much work we have to do on ourselves, and so the ego protects us from our darker, more uncomfortable aspects.
Your darkest, deepest, most painful shadow will hit you square in the jaw on a random Thursday morning, a left hook out of nowhere from the person you love the most, while you were thinking about when you’re going to run out of toothpaste. This is how the Universe operates.
It will be so dark and so painful that reality won’t feel right in the first few moments after uncovering this dark, hidden self truth. Time will do funny things. It will feel surreal. How could I have lived my whole life with this cataclysmically biblical-sized shadow following me around everywhere, without my foggiest conception?
Now it’s time to go inwards and heal of course, but you’ll still wonder how you didn’t see such a large blind spot. You’ll wonder how no one noticed it, not even yourself, when it’s now so clearly a reason for why you’ve been the way you’ve been for the entirety of your life. The reason why you hurt people, the reason why you hurt yourself, was so crafty and so manipulative that it was able to hide itself from itself.
The Awakening gets weirder as it goes.
How do you prevent the deepest shadows from hiding? You don’t. Your darkest shadows will not be revealed to you until you’re ready to see them, and not a millisecond sooner. Your Higher Self knows.
But I believe that you can give yourself the opportunity to speed things up. Go out there. Mix it up. Stand in your power. Speak your truth. Love unconditionally. Someone, somewhere out there will get triggered and reflect your darkest shadow back to you.
It’s human nature to want to figure it out ourselves, since we know ourselves so well, but we have to trust that the outside world has the ability to be our mirror for the darkness lingering in the recesses of our psyches. We lean on each other as mirrors to get ourselves ready for the Ascension.
Trust that you need help to see yourself, and help will come. It always does.
